We are happy to announce the winner of the Fantastic Library's Golden Griffin Award for Best Fantasy Book in 2016
In the literature category, the winner of the Golden Griffin Award for Best Fantasy Book in 2016 is… The Wise Man's Fear, by Patrick Rothfuss, which came out at Opus Publishing, and translated by Zafrir Grosman.
This year's winner comes with an extraordinary story of guts and determination. For those unfamiliar with Rothfuss and his works, The Wise Man's Fear is the second book in the Kingkiller's Chronicle, and it is the sequel to the lovingly-received Name of the Wind, which was initially published in Israel by Kinneret Zmora Bittan Publishing House in 2010. Unfortunately, the first book was revealed to be a late bloomer, and its sales were not considered substantial enough to justify continuing the trilogy. By the time word of mouth made it into a success and it acquired a substantial group of fans, it was no longer probable the publishing house would continue the series.
During the years since the Kingkiller Chronicle had been discontinued, different initiatives arose, to translate and publish the second book in the trilogy. But all was in vain, until someone finally listened. Opus Publishing decided to take on the challenge of purchasing the rights for the series and bringing it to the eagerly awaiting fans. Not only that, it even brought The Name of the Wind back to the book stores after years of absence. Well, it seems the risk Opus has taken paid off, and so we are proud to present Rothfuss' book the award for Best Fantasy Book of 2016!
